Popcorn ceilings date a home, collect dust and make rooms feel darker. Removing them is messy work, so we seal off the room, cover floors and walls in plastic, and protect light fixtures and vents before we start. The texture is softened and scraped away, the ceiling is skimmed and sanded smooth, then primed and painted. Homes built before 1980 can have asbestos in ceiling texture, so we ask for a test on older homes before any scraping begins.
